Zydeco
The word has several meanings. In relationship to music, it is the traditional dance music of the Black Creoles of Southwest Louisiana. Zydeco music is faster and more syncopated than Cajun music. Heavily influenced by Afro-Caribbean sounds, Zydeco draws on blues, rhythm and blues, soul, funk and other urban styles. It's syncopated rhythms appeals to audiences around the world and is rapidly evolving and moving into mainstream music.
Blues From blues music came great artists, such as Muddy Waters, John Lee
Hooker, Buddy Guy, Bessie Smith and others. But the blues might never
have been created if it had not been for the influence of hollers,
calls, and the changes that occurred in the lives of blacks. It
combined the styles of the past with a new type of song. The popularity
of the blues marked a new era for black music.
Southern Soul
A type of soul music that emerged from the Southern United States It has also been tagged deep soul or even country soul. The music originated from a combination of styles, including blues (both 12 bar and jump), country and western, early rock and roll, and a strong gospel influence that emanated from the sounds of Southern African-American churches. The focus of the music was not on its lyrics, but on the "feel" or the groove. This rhythmic force made it a strong influence in the rise of funk music.
